No Limits Club

No Limits Newsletter - December 2009

No Limits is a community downhill skiing club for persons with disabilities launched in 2008 at Searchmont Resort.  Available equipment/assistance includes:

Sit Ski  - allows persons who have quadriplegia or paraplegia to experience skiing on the mountain. This sport can also accommodate many different types of disabilities, such as multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, bilateral amputation and any other disability which affects a person’s mobility.

Outriggers  -  assist skiers with a single, lower limb amputation.

Four Track - accommodates people who can stand or walk but are unsteady on their feet.

Volunteer Guides – assist persons with visual or hearing disabilities.  In most cases, persons can achieve the ability to ski independently (without an instructor or volunteer) once skill and individual comfort are achieved.

No Limits Club members will pay an annual fee for use and upkeep of the equipment, to secure additional equipment and to cover the cost of a lift ticket. The fee will be kept to the absolute minimum.

The club will operate on Sunday’s from 1-4pm, January through March.  No Limits Ski Club memberships are $135 and include five 1.5 hour lessons, 1/2 day lift pass, equipment rental, certified instructor/trained volunteer (if needed) and membership with the Canadian Association of Disabled Skiers (CADS).  Once skiers become proficient in downhill skiing, membership would no longer be required: skiers would be able to rent the equipment and head out on their own.

Guests

Visitors to the Resort from outside the community can book No Limits equipment and a certified instructor at a rate of $45 per hour or $65 per two hours.  For experienced skiers who can use equipment without instruction, the rental of the sit ski will be $20 per hour.
