The Searchmont Ski Runner (SSR) hosted the last of the season's divisional races at Searchmont Resort, from Thursday February 15th to Sunday February 17th.
This classic annual event welcomed the entire Northern Ontario Division as well as guests from Thunder Bay and Marquette, Michigan. Featured events included two Super-G and two Giant Slalom Races.
Two Super-G races, the only speed events of the season were held on Thursday. Delaney Brown finished with a gold and silver and Evi Tiessen got silver and a bronze in the ladies' U12 category.
Tayte Nowak was on top of the ladies' U14 speed podium with two golds. Emma Hendrie earned silver while Olivia Babic and Georgia Moore-Mcleod finished both races in the top 10.
Really pouring on the speed was the ladies' U16 crew--Avery Marcoux with gold and a silver and Abby Wolfe snatched the other gold and silver. Chianti Brown netted a bronze, with Alexis Mezzomo less than a second off the podium. Lindsay Virene and Candace Huard kept these women on their toes with consistent top 10 places.
Just as comfortable with the pace, the SSR men also collected the hardware. Zak Greensted impressed with gold and silver while Austin Nori narrowly missed the podium with two fourth places.
Jacques Tiessen’s two golds and Conrad Nori’s two silvers showed their need for speed in the men’s U14 category. Keeping them honest were Charlie Elder, Alec Real with top ten finishes. Closing the gap was Beau Greensted and solid runs by Jonathan Cho kept him in the top 20.
In the men’s U16, Chandler Simpson was tenths of a second off the podium, Nick Cantarutti steadily narrowing the gap with two 6th places. Matthew Farrell and Michael Cho smoothly rounded out the men’s team.
“Our team was smooth and strong in the speed event,” say coaches Steve Tarchuk, Scott Beamont and Don Higgs. “Their dedication to training is showing in their results.”
